Nemeton Monastery may pretend to be a charming place of worship, but it has been the site of political imprisonment and grisly murders over the years. Given everything that happens in the monastery over the course of Koudelka, it seems to explain an awful lot when sequel Shadow Hearts reveals that the abbey has been sitting next to a submerged alien beacon since the building was constructed, and that it was built on a natural "nerve point" of the Earth, where power and energy accumulates...

The Monastery has various living quarters, chapels, and underground acid vats. Because, hey, you never know when you're going to need some chemical concoction to aid your dark experiments with the recreation of life! There are also remnants of prison cells underground, and a secret passage or two...
