Koudelka was the brainchild of a disgruntled Squaresoft composer, Hiroki Kikuta, who is most famous for writing the score for Secret of Mana (Seiken Denetsu 2). Kikuta broke away from Squaresoft and founded Sacnoth for the express purpose of making Koudelka. He was responsible for the aesthetic aspects of the game, including the art design, the scenario scripts, and the musical score.
