historical -Based on emperors.  Kings.  Ceasars... you know that lot.  The Emperor is also associated with the archtypal father figure - most likely because Zeus and several other big divine Daddies were also usually regarded as Kings of their respective groups of Gods. 

card - The Daddy card. If Mommy Empress is fertility, then Dad gets big ol' manly virility (oooooh.. sexy freudness).  Sadly, like many mythical fathers, he also seems to get a kick out of randomly pushing around the kiddies - ruling, power, that sort of thing.  Emperor's an old-school kinda guy, I guess you could say...

emperor meaning - Paternal feeling. Will.  Protectiveness.  Benevolent authority. Temporal strength.

emperor reversed meaning - Tyrrany, megalomania, or subservience.  Immaturity.
