- 02 - The High Priestess -

historical - Also called "The Papess", much like the Hierophant is also called "The Pope".  Shiny, shiny parallels.  The Papess bit is based off of some mideavel legends about Sister Manfreda, the Visconti Papess... a feminist nun who who decided that the Catholic Church could go screw itself and founded a seperate religious order.  She was eventually killed and her inclusion in the deck got the tarot branded as Satanic for a good bit (along with the Devil card and various nudes, that is)

high priestess meaning - Divination, wisdom, secrets, and knowledge.  The occult.  Purity and virginity.

high priestess reversed meaning - Conceit, superficiality, sensuality.  Surface knowledge. Being a slut. Decadence and cynicism.

persona wielder - "Psycho" Mary, from Revelations.  (mad crazy spoiler goodness)

To be honest, I'm not too up on my Mary-related knowledge.  But I'm guessing that the Ideal Mary lined up with the normal meaning, and Evil Evil Bad Mary variants fall to reversed.  It's also fairly fitting that she call secrets and the occult, since she did kind of trap a city in her subconcious and then.. umm.. keep that secret.

.. faugh!  I scorn creative wording in this case of cases.
